Public Affairs Forum
The Mercyhurst Center for Applied Politics (MCAP) kicks off its Public Affairs Forum for the 2012-2013 academic year with a presentation by Mark Holman on Monday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. in the Mercy Heritage Room. Holman’s visit is part of the University’s annual Constitution Day (Sept. 17) observance and is free and open to the public. Holman, a partner with Ridge Policy Group LLC in Washington DC, will address today’s campaigns and constitutional issues.
Previously, the Public Affairs Forum has hosted former U.S. Representative Kathy Dahlkemper, U.S. Representative Mike Kelly, and former Congressman Phil English. Dahlkemper, who previously represented Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district, talked to the Mercyhurst community in December of 2011. She with Dr. Michael Federici, Chair of the Mercyhurst Political Science Department, had a panel discussion on gerrymandering, the controversial practice of redistricting areas for political gain. Rep. Kelly of the 3rd Congressional District of Pennsylvania visited in October of 2011 in a Town Hall Meeting style. He talked to the Mercyhurst community about issues of national and international importance and answered audience questions. Former Congressman English in September of 2011 was part of the college’s annual Constitutional Day observance. With 14 years representing the 3rd Congressional District, English has immense political experience and discussed with our community “Constitutional Challenges in a Time of Crisis.”
